New U.S. DOT Policy Statement For Walking & Bicycling

Speaking at the National Bike Summit in Washington D.C. on March 11, U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Sec. Ray LaHood announced a major policy revision that incorporates safe and convenient walking and bicycling facilities in federally-funded road projects.

The new policy recognizes that "the establishment of well-connected walking and bicycling networks is an important component for livable communities, and their design should be a part of Federal-aid project developments."
