The Walnut Creek Recreation Area is one of the smallest lakes in the series of flood control projects implemented under the auspices of the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resource District. It does however offer a number of amenities including a 3 mile trail that surreptitiously connects to the West Papio trail. Other attractions include restrooms, drinking fountains, a playground, picnic areas, an equestrian trail and a host of outdoor activities including fishing, camping, and boating. The trail is serpentine and flat with the exception of a straight run across the top of the dam and a steep winding grade near the parking lot.

As noted in our aerial trail map, you can connect to the West Papio via an underground crossing of Highway 370 on the northeast side of the lake. From there, you may take any number of streets through the neighborhood to Lincoln Street where the path can be picked up again. A connector trail is currently under construction that will eliminate the need to traverse the neighborhood route and shorten the distance slightly.
