Standing Bear is one of the early trail systems that were built around Omaha lakes. The path is approximately 6 feet wide with uneven slopes and numerous grass filled cracks. It is unfriendly to bikers due to both its width and surface flaws. The path affords a great view of the lake from a number of vantage points and runners and walkers alike will find the trail appealing and serene (except for miniature planes buzzing above your head from Husker Field, home to a landing strip and a large group of hobby planes.) Located on the northwest side of Omaha, it is easily accessible with ample parking. Amenities are few but there are some picnic areas and outhouses. Like all of Omaha’s parks, it is free to the general public and offers a pleasant 3 ½ mile jaunt around the lake.
