Wabash Angels Present $3,000 Gift To OTVFD |
The Wabash Angels, a group formed to assist with fundraising projects that support the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, recently presented a gift of $3,000 to the Oak Township Volunteer Fire Department (OTVFD) in Mineola, Iowa. The funds were used to purchase rescue equipment designed to respond to emergencies on the Wabash Trace.
Using the funds from the Wabash Angels, plus some additional dontations, the OTVFD purchased an off-road, all-terrain vehicle that was converted to an ambulance for use on the trail. This new vehicle dramatically improves their ability to respond to emergencies on the Wabash or other off-road emergencies. Previously, the OTVFD relied on their traditional emergency vehicles which are too large and heavy to access many parts of the trail.
The Wabash Angels raised the money throughout 2009. The generous riders of the popular Thursday night Taco Ride purchased the t-shirts and koozies that were sold as part of the fundraising effort. A pancake breakfast with the Oak Township Volunteer Fire Dept was also held this past summer. Private donations were also received to support this purchase.
Special thanks to out to Bailey Lauerman Advertising Agency for their donated design work. Also, special thanks to Xtreme Wheels bicycle shop in Council Bluffs for helping sell t-shirts and koozies.
The Wabash Angels are already planning a BBQ fundraiser next summer to help fund other improvements to the Wabash Trace Nature Trail.
