The South Omaha trail is the newest trail in the metro area. Connecting on the west end to the Keystone Trail, the South Omaha is intended to provided a much needed east-west link in the City when it eventually connects to the Field Club trail.
On the west end, the South Omaha connects at Karen Park (approximately 63rd Street, north of L Street). It travels east skirting around the Kiewit property and crosses 60th Street on a former railroad bridge. Despite pushing through the heart of the City, the trail is tree lined and provides a secluded feeling for much of the trail. Traveling east, the trail also has a moderate incline in some sections. For bikers heading west, they will enjoy a fast trip on the downhill sections.
The crossing at 50th Street is an at-grade crossing and will require trail users to stop for traffic.
Ultimately the South Omaha trail will connect to the Field Club trail at approximately 33rd and Vinton Street. However, the current completed section of the South Omaha trail ends at 45th and G Street back in the neighborhood.
When completed, the South Omaha trail will connect to the Field Club trail.
