The City of Omaha recently closed the Big Papio Trail due to safety issues associated with the bridge that crosses above the trail.  Loose concrete had fallen onto the trail from the bridge which was scheduled for rehabilitation this year.  The trail closure will be in effect for approximately 8 months according to the City.  Access through the area is still available via an at-grade crossing on 84th Street; however this situation may change during construction of the bridge.  It is also recommended that bikers and runners use the crosswalk and signal at 84th and Frederick, one block north of the closure to insure a safe crossing.

The Big Papio trail will also face a closure in the future, approximately ½ mile south of the current closure at F Street.  This bridge is scheduled to be rehabilitated sometime in 2009.  We will update you on this closure as further details emerge.
