Omaha’s boulevard system began in the late 1800’s and is mainly concentrated east of 60th Street. However, the City of Omaha has planned and is implementing several new segments to the west including the 144th Street corridor. The trademarks of these boulevard systems are a widened median with landscaping and pedestrian-bikepaths.
The 144th Street boulevard trail begins on the north at Standing Bear lake near Ida Street. It lies on both sides street although the prevalent continuous section will favor the west until its connection with the Mopac trail at the junction of Hwy. 50 and Hwy. 370. The serpentine path is landscaped through much of the corridor and abuts some of Omaha’s points of interest including Standing Bear (Ida Street), Boy’s Town (W. Dodge Road), Oak View Mall (W. Center Road), and Chalco Hills/Wehspann Recreation Area. The Mopac path mentioned previously is partially finished will eventually connect to Lincoln, 50 miles to the southwest.
NOTE: 144th Street is closed from Stonybrook to Q Street for this season for a road widening project.

TRAILBLAZING:
The path runs continuously from Standing Bear to Interstate 80 on the south. The segment connecting the path to Highway 50 is currently in the planning stages. Due to its considerable length the trail abuts numerous trails along its route.

Downsides:
- At grade crossings at all intersections
- Heavy traffic on 144th Street and major crossings
Upsides:
- Connections to most major trails in Omaha
- Ample opportunity for stops at points of interest
- Wide variety of sights along the route from urban to rural
- Convenience stores and restaurants on the south segments
- Most intersections are signalized
